3 Ways to Give Hope
3 Projects - Parents Place in Sderot
A generation of children in Sderot is growing up under fire. Many of these children experience sleep disorders, bedwetting, fear of the dark, generalized anxiety, and separation anxiety from their parents. After years of working with the community, the ICTP recently opened the doors to “Parents Place” in Sderot. Understanding that strengthening parents is the most effective way to help support their children, we provide workshops in parenting skills, tools for coping with stress, and much needed support to parents in this war-torn area. Early childhood professionals have designed cutting edge programming to help parents and children learn and develop in the shadow of trauma. Help us to help these parents do their job--the most important work in the world. - Peace of Mind - for our Soldiers
Every year, thousands of young, Israeli combat soldiers complete three years of mandatory service. While in the army, many have witnessed terrible sights, made split-second life or death decisions, or have experienced injuries or the loss of a friend. While in the army, they have not had the opportunity to process these experiences and often have difficulties in transitioning back into civilian life. Symptoms may include trouble concentrating, sleep disorders, flashbacks or abuse of alcohol or drugs. The ICTP has developed a unique model of intensive weeklong workshops to help these soldiers process their experiences and build resilience. Israeli young people are paying a very high price for defending our country. Help us to help these young people transition back into civilian life and to regain their peace of mind. - Trauma Services for the Ethiopian Community
The Ethiopian Jewish Community in Israel, numbering over 100,000, is suffering a double trauma. The journey for many of these immigrants was fraught with trauma and hardship including death and illness. Having arrived in Israel, the absorption process has been fraught with challenges and distress. The ICTP has spearheaded the creation of trauma services for this community, training Amharic speaking mental health professionals in trauma treatment and resilience building and bringing these services to the community throughout Israel. Help us help Ethiopian Jews heal from trauma so that they can become a strong and healthy part of Israeli society.
