  • How does the bike-a-thon work?
You experience three incredible days (or 1 day) of recreation, riding with other cyclists in the beautiful Land of Israel. Your friends, family and associates have the opportunity to join in your success by sponsoring your bike ride; knowing that all the money you raise will help fund three of the ICTP projects aimed at helping people healing from trauma.
Your goal: Each 3 day cyclist is asked to raise a minimum of $ 2,000 / 8,000 NIS (In early registration: Minimum sponsorship $ 1,500 / NIS 6,000). Each 1 day cyclist is asked to raise a minimum of $ 385 / 1,500 NIS (In early registration: Minimum sponsorship $ 240 / NIS 950). The sky is the limit in terms of how much money you can raise and contribute.
  • Who can be my sponsors?
This is the time to contact everyone you know (even those you haven’t spoken to for a while!) Family, friends, neighbors, army buddies, store owners, friends from university or grade school, your lawyer, accountant, doctor and mechanic. The list is endless. We also have what we call a “webbing exercise”. This will help you remember so many people that you are connected to in your life that you might have forgotten about. By committing to raising this sponsorship money, which of course is TAX DEDUCTABLE to the extent of the law, you, your friends and family are all helping us to help those in need of our services. Whether it’s the Peace of Mind soldiers' project, Parents Place in Sderot or our Ethiopian Community Project, you will be riding for them.
We have a sample letter that is a good base for what to say. Please add your personal touch... as it is coming from you.
Of course, personal phone calls and visits also work well!
  • Why should people give me money?
One of the gifts of Cycle for Hope is that you get to do what you love (cycle), see the magnificent land of Israel, and get those that love you (or at least know you!) to really make a difference in people’s lives, those who are in need of our services.
People really like the idea of what YOU are doing to help others.
And remember, all monies raised will go to the benefit of our three projects.
  • Will we be cycling on-road or off-road?
Our three day ride is all "on –road". Our "daytripper" has two options for the 1 day rider: You can join our group in progress and ride "on-road" or have the option to ride "off-road" yet due to technicalities, there will be times that the "off-road" will be "on-road" as well.
Our biking experts have chosen roads that highlight the beauty of Israel. Beginning in the mountains of Jerusalem and cycling into the flatlands of the desert. Remember this time of year is the peak season for the wildflowers to be in bloom. It will be a feast of beauty for your eyes.
  • What is a typical day?
We will depart each morning around 7:00 following a wonderful Israeli breakfast.
As we cycle towards points of interest, there will be a guide there to explain the rich history of the Jewish people and the land of Israel. There are places you will see where the Bible comes alive.
All days will have numerous rest stops with drinks and snacks (all Kosher). Lunch will be in shady rest areas where we will have time to come together and enjoy the tasty food prepared fresh each day.
At the end of the day there is time for a swim at the kibbutz or just some basking in the sun. Our first night is our Gala Registration and Opening dinner. Our second night will give us time to meet some parents and children from Sderot and our Parents Place project. Our final night, we will have a special BBQ dinner with some of our soldiers that participated in our Peace of Mind project. There will be time to mingle and meet new friends and plenty of time to rest as well.
  • What kind of shape do I need to be in?
You must be in very good condition to ride the three days. We will be riding a total of 245 km. There will be days of riding in mountains and days we will be riding flatland. Pre ride training should begin immediately.
Remember if you do get tired at any point, we will have a jeep and trailer with us at all times. You just say the word, and we will pick you up for as long as you like.
  • If I don’t ride, how else can I participate in Cycle for Hope?
You can always be a part of our volunteer staff. If you would like:
    * To be in the car to follow or lead the cyclists
    * To help out in our closing ceremony at Mitzpe Ramon
    * To help us find corporate sponsors
    * To help us recruit more riders
    * To write about our Cycle for Hope in your local newspaper
Or if you have any ideas that you think you would like to do contact
    Revital Gill at rgill@herzoghospital.org
You can sponsor a soldier or a group of soldiers for $65 per soldier on the one day ride.
You can sponsor a student or a group of students for $65 per student on the one day ride.
You can also make a donation and help support any of our projects!
  • What type of accommodations will the ride provide?
Our first night in Jerusalem is at a 4* hotel with a swimming pool. It is conveniently located near the entrance of the City for an easy departure in the morning.
Our next two nights are at kibbutzim, both with pools and both nearby well known mineral spas. Both kibbutzim are located in untamed nature and surrounded by desert flora.
All rooms are based on double occupancy. Single occupancy is available by request and an additional charge of $130 for all three nights.
  • What should I pack?
Pack as light as possible - pack only one piece of luggage for the Cycle for Hope. If you have more than 1 piece of luggage, you will be able to leave it at the offices of the Trauma Center for the duration of the Cycle for Hope ride. Please let us know if you need this accommodation.
