About Us

The Israel Center for the Treatment of Psychotrauma has been developing and providing services and programs for populations exposed to trauma in Israel and internationally since 1989.

The center was established to contend with the growing phenomenon of psychotrauma in Israel, where an estimated 10-12% of Israelis suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), three times the level of that in the US and other western countries. The ICTP has become a world-recognized innovator in the research and treatment of the widespread effects of trauma. In order to best serve the different segments of society suffering from or at risk of trauma, the ICTP offers a wide range of programs and services, each specialized and directed towards specific parts of the population.

  • Our director, Prof. Danny Brom at the invitation of a NY Senator, addressed the members of the US Congress on the effects of terrorism and trauma.
  • He was an invited guest speaker at the United Nations.
  • His published works continue to be at the forefront in the field of psychotrauma.
  • Our staff was chosen to lead resilience workshops in Biloxi Mississippi after hurricane Katrina.

Among are other accomplishments are:

  • Opening the first walk in crisis center in Israel
  • Initiating an umbrella organization of more than 40 service providers working with trauma in Israel (in times of war or national disaster)
  • Successfully conducting building resilience workshops for policemen, firefighters, paramedics, teachers and bomb squads as part of a "helping the helpers" initiative

The Center has conducted many successful studies in the field and recently some were published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry, The New York Academy of Sciences and others. The ICTP is at the forefront of innovation and development of trauma services for groups in need.
